In a horrifying incident in Tampa, Florida, a female DoorDash driver was kidnapped and sexually assaulted while making a delivery on Sunday, April 18th. The suspect, Joseph Killins, 38, was taken into custody late Friday night and faces charges of kidnapping, assault, and other related crimes.
The woman had been making a delivery at the Residence Inn when she was approached by Killins, who forced her back into her car at gunpoint and made her drive to another location more than 10 kilometers away. At the time, the woman was on the phone with her girlfriend and had her AirPods in her ears, and her girlfriend was able to quickly realize that a robbery was taking place.
The victim’s family, who had been tracking her phone, arrived at the location and were able to rescue her from the car. However, the suspect opened fire, wounding a relative of the victim’s girlfriend, before fleeing. The victim and the person he shot were both taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
DoorDash has responded to the incident, saying that they are “appalled by this heinous and abhorrent crime” and are assisting Tampa police in their investigation. They have also offered their support to the victim in any way they can.
