The much anticipated Barbie movie is inching closer to its premiere, and the world is abuzz. Having already released the movie’s official song, Dance The Night, performed by Dua Lipa, Barbie has recently announced the names of the artists who will be featured on the soundtrack.
Amongst the chosen artists is Colombian singer Karol G, who will undoubtedly add a unique flavor to a new era of music. Karol G took to Instagram to express her excitement, thanking the Panamanian Aldo Ranks, who will be named Watiti, for accepting the project with her.
“For a long time I wanted to make music that would remind me of the great Panamanian songs that I danced to and enjoyed years ago and that are still part of my playlist,” the Colombian wrote. She finished off with a promise – “Obviously we put Barbie to dog” – leaving fans of the movie and of Karol G impatient to hear what their collaboration has produced.
This just goes to show the global recognition of striving Latina talent, and how its recognition reverberates beyond its borders. In a time where representation is such an important element of entertainment, having Karol G as part of the Barbie soundtrack team is a welcome change for audiences all around the world. The world eagerly awaits the day when Karol G, and the rest of the featured talent, will grace the speakers with their music from the movie, bringing Barbie into the modern age.
